To edit the text in a PDF with FontiaPDF, upload it, click the line you want to change and start typing: when you download, the new text uses the same font, size and color as the original. How to edit PDF text in 3 steps

  1. Upload your PDF

    Drop the file onto the upload area or pick it from your device. Files up to 50 MB are supported, and a password-protected PDF asks for its password before it opens.

  2. Click and type

    Every line of text becomes editable when you click it. The floating toolbar handles bold, italic, underline, size, color and font. To add new text, double-click an empty spot on the page.

  3. Download the result

    Hit “Download PDF”. FontiaPDF removes the original text from the page, writes the new text in the document’s own font and hands you a file that is ready to send or print.

What’s preserved and what isn’t

Preserved

  • The original font, as long as it is embedded in the PDF and contains every character you typed. The editor checks this character by character before reusing it.
  • The size, color and position of each line, plus everything you didn’t touch: images, graphics and the rest of the pages.
  • Text stays text: in the downloaded PDF it can still be selected, copied and searched.

Limits

  • Scanned PDFs can’t be edited. They are a photo of the paper, and FontiaPDF has no OCR. You can still type new text on top.
  • If the embedded font is a subset that lacks a character you typed (an accented letter, for example), that line falls back to the closest available font.
  • Text doesn’t reflow. Each line is edited on its own, so making a sentence longer won’t push the next lines down.
  • In a few PDFs with unusual encodings, a line can only be rewritten as a whole; the editor tells you when you select it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to convert the PDF to Word to edit it?

No. FontiaPDF edits the PDF directly in your browser. A round trip through Word can knock tables out of place and swap the fonts; here only the lines you touch are rewritten, and the rest of the document stays exactly as it was.

Is my PDF stored on a server?

Editing happens in your browser. When you download, the file goes through our server to apply your changes; it is stored temporarily and deleted automatically after 60 minutes. It is never shared with third parties or used to train AI models.

How many PDFs can I edit for free?

The free plan includes 20 exports a day, with no sign-up and no watermark. Make as many changes as you like before downloading: only each download of the edited PDF counts. Premium removes the limit.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in modern mobile browsers. For documents full of small text, a bigger screen is more comfortable.
